Overview

We are going back into the rainforest for a 4-day, 3-night retreat at Cabilla, a very beautiful special place deep in the wild of Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, to disconnect from the noise of the busy world around us, and reconnect to ourselves, nature, and each other. This will be our 6th retreat in this beautiful place. We'll be practicing daily yoga in the barn, going for wild walks and swims in the ancient temperate rainforest, enjoying a magical sound bath, relaxing, reading, resting, and eating delicious food by Beth the Free Range Chef. This retreat has been specifically designed for you to rest and re-connect, with yourself, nature and other lovely humans. Cabilla is a truly magical place designed to balance the nervous system, and leave you with a little more space in your body and mind, and calm in your soul.

Hosts

Our retreat hosts are all experienced yoga teachers, workshop hosts and chefs who love nothing more than creating memorable, magical experiences for our guests. *Please note - hosts are subject to change depending on availability*

Maya Howell

Maya Howell

Maya is a vinyasa, yin, restorative and nidra yoga teacher and lead host at The Wild Times. She has previously hosted many of our retreats in the UK, Sweden and Morocco, and teaches regular classes across East London.

On the mat, Maya invites you to move freely, explore with curiosity, and drop the idea of getting it “right.” She offers creative flows with options for all levels of yogi - an invitation to take what the body needs in the moment. Think movement that builds warmth and gives space for trying something new while staying soft, playful, and grounding - all set to the sound of soothing Scottish tones. Expect soft knees, self-enquiry, breathwork, stillness, play, meditation, wobbles, poetry, and great playlists.

When not on retreat, Maya is half Scottish selkie, half East London girl. If not found in the sea, you can usually find her warming up in a sauna somewhere or mooching around a market or gallery, getting inspired for future dreams of her own exhibit one day.

Her past life as an events manager means she has a natural knack of making everything feel effortless so you can sit back, switch off, and melt in.

Beth Alexander

Beth Alexander

Beth is our resident Wild Times chef, cooking on most of our retreats. She takes inspiration from cuisines around the world, from Italy to India, creating nourishing, vegetarian meals for guests to enjoy.

She cooks intuitively using simple seasonal ingredients with minimal waste whilst exploring all the flavours and textures and colours. Over the last 11 years she's learnt to adapt. Whether it’s cooking in the woods over fire, on an Aga in a luxury 13th-century castle, or a Moroccan kitchen with minimal facilities, no shared language and marauding peacocks, it always comes together.

"Bringing together ingredients to feed people is a simple and essential way to show you care, to connect with your tribe and unite over what makes us all human."

Jenny Clark

Jenny is a yoga teacher, paddle board instructor, writer and Founder of The Wild Times. She has created and held over 80 retreats across the UK and in Morocco, Italy, Sweden and Greece.

Jenny always aims to create a very relaxed, non-judgemental environment on her retreats, where guests can connect to themselves, to others and to nature. She teaches and blends together a range of yoga and meditation styles; vinyasa, mandala vinyasa, yin, yoga Nidra, paddle board yoga.

In her classes you'll find a 'you do you' attitude, a focus on feeling into your body, belly and heart over creating shapes, options for different levels of yogi, a sense of humour and practices themed around the natural elements, with poems and meditations too.

Trip Tips

Do

Do

Settle in before starting the retreat with tea, snacks and our opening circle. Day one (Thursday) is all about grounding and resting, so we will do yin yoga and a magical sound bath before dinner, preparing us for a good, long sleep. Friday will bring morning yoga and meditation, before a hearty brunch. There will be the option to join a guided rainforest walk and connect to the land around us. Later on we will practice yin yoga before a delicious dinner. On Saturday there will be morning yoga and meditation before brunch, then the option to join a surf lesson on the coast, or enjoy free time to walk in the woods and wild swim in the river. There will be yin yoga before dinner, followed by campfire chats and marshmallows. Sunday morning we'll have an optional wild swim together before a our last brunch. This is then followed by a closing circle and departures. The yoga classes are themed around the natural elements, bringing nature into your practice. All activities are optional but encouraged, so you can nap, read or swim and explore - it’s completely up to you. Also - all activities are weather dependant, so we leave space for the schedule to change and flow!

The Wild Times retreats are for anyone who wants to re-wild and relax. We welcome everyone over 18 of any ability - just come with an open heart and mind.

Please note a reasonable level of mobility and fitness is required to take part in any or all of the activities. If you're unsure if it's for you, drop us an email.

If you're just finding your yogi legs you are very welcome, but to get the most out of our yoga retreats we recommend taking part in at least 3/4 yoga classes before joining.

For the sea swimming: Swimming is at your own risk and we ask that you can swim at least 50 metres. Please bring your own wetsuit (if you want one), water sports towel and water shoes.

For walking: Bring warm clothes, waterproofs and walking shoes.

For the yoga: Yoga mats, bolsters, blankets, straps and blocks are provided. Please bring warm layers and (if you have room!) an extra blanket is always useful for the yin yoga and yoga Nidra classes.
